The Veterans Aid and Attendance pension is a largely unknown benefit for veterans and their surviving spouses who require assistance at home. While the benefit has existed for over 60 years, many veterans are not aware of it and/or how to qualify for it. The Aid and Attendance pension can help pay for care in the home, nursing home or assisted living facility. This government program makes it possible for veterans and their surviving spouse to receive tax-free benefits that will pay for nursing care at home or the option to move to an assisted living facility prescribed by a doctor. These benefits are paid in addition to monthly pension, and they are not paid without eligibility to pension. Like Social Security, this pension is dependable and is paid directly to you by the Department of the Treasury.

How Do I Know if I am Eligible to Receive Aid and Attendance?
Aid and Attendance is a pension benefit and is not conditional upon service-related injuries for compensation. You are eligible to receive this pension if you or your spouse:

•Served on active duty for at least 90 days
•Served at least one day during a period of war
•Received an honorable discharge
•Have been instructed by a doctor that daily living assistance is needed
•Meet the income and financial requirements set by the VA

Can My Allegiance Services Be Covered by the VA?

As always, we at Allegiance believe your loved ones should receive services that are custom designed to fit their individual needs. We understand that being able to receive top-notch care in the comfort of your home is invaluable. For our veteran’s program, we help streamline the VA application process by connecting you with one of our veteran’s consultants for free. Our process typically includes the consultant spending one to two weeks gathering the information needed to complete the application. After submission to the Veterans Administration, it can take anywhere from three to nine months for the application to be processed. However, in the case of urgent situations, it is sometimes possible to begin receiving aid and home care services prior to the application’s processing.
