One third of falls happen due to environmental hazards.

Tim, DPT shares three tips on how you can prevent these falls in the home.

  1. Home Safety

Keep walkways safe by clearing clutter from the ground and removing throw rugs.

Make sure there is proper lighting around steps and dark areas.

  1. Assisted Devices

When using a walker or cane, make sure it is always nearby, even when taking just a couple of steps.

It is important to keep the assisted device nearby when sitting down, so it is available when standing up.

  1. Keep Muscles Strong

Good muscle strength benefits balance, flexibility, and functional capacity.

Working with a personal trainer or physical therapist can help build strong muscles.
