What if I need help with a loved one during the holidays?

The holiday season is upon us.  And while many of us take this time of year for some rest and relaxation, others find this time of year to be quite stressful.

It’s normal to struggle with the thought of leaving your elderly loved one behind as you make travel plans to visit family/friends back home or out of state.  At Allegiance Home Health and Rehab, we’re here to lend a helping hand and some peace of mind.

We offer a FREE consultation wherever your relative resides (i.e. – home, rehab facility or hospital).  A registered nurse will come to the residence to discuss his/her individual case and outline various home health care options.  We’ll also provide you with community resources that are available during this time of year.  The consultation will give you all the information you need to choose the best health care option that suits your loved one’s needs.

Understand that you are not alone in this situation.  We have had many clients over the years who only utilize our services a few times a year, when they are traveling, or during the holidays, when it’s not always easy or convenient to take care of an elderly loved one.  This is a special time of year, when you want to spend more QUALITY time with your family, visiting, sharing stories, baking cookies, and doing other traditional activities.  Let us worry about bathing, dressing, and cooking for your aging loved ones, so you can simply enjoy the holiday season with them.

Our caregivers remain in constant contact with you to ensure you’re fully aware of Mom/Dad’s status while you’re away for the holidays.  Remember, our mission is to give you and your family peace of mind.  That’s why we continue to pledge our allegiance to you.

What is Light Housekeeping?

You want to provide your parents with a safe and friendly environment to live in. Even though your parents cannot clean the house as they used to, that doesn’t mean that they have to go days on end living in a dirty house. Unfortunately, the simplest cleaning tasks at their age may be very difficult or impossible, due to illness or physical limitations.  But you can provide them with a gateway to help, by hiring a caregiver who tends to your parents needs, while at the same time does light housekeeping.

What is Light Housekeeping?
Simply put, light housekeeping is basic chores performed around the house. Although you could probably come once in a week to clean the house yourself, most days it will remain unkempt. As a loving child, you probably don’t want to see your parents residing in such conditions. In order to help them out, you can hire a caregiver who does light chores and housekeeping on a regular basis.

What Does Light Housekeeping Include and Not Include?
Apart from looking after your beloved parents, a caregiver is also responsible for doing light housekeeping and chores. An aide can vacuum the rooms, tidy up clutter, dispose of the garbage, make the bed, do the laundry, and sweep/mop the floor. The aide can also dust, wash dishes, fold and put clothes away, change light bulbs, water plants, and wipe down bathroom fixtures.  Speak with your agency about the specific chores that must be completed on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.  Please be aware that the caregiver is not permitted to perform “heavy-duty” and outdoor chores, such as landscaping, washing windows (from the outside), pressure washing, swimming pool maintenance, and removing debris from gutters.

If your parents require that someone comes and performs these chores, they should hire a separate company that specializes in providing those services to them. For light housekeeping, caregivers are the perfect solution.
