Caregiving includes the responsibility for the physical care and emotional support of someone who can no longer care for themselves due to chronic illness, injury, or disability. Often, this care falls on young family members. These responsibilities can even take away their childhood!

The American Association of Caregiving Youth, AACY, is dedicated solely to addressing caregiving youth issues in our South Florida Community. The AACY supports these children starting in sixth grade at the age of 11 years old through high school.

Did you know that the AACY supports the students at school and at home?

  • Caregiving Youth spend an average of 20 hours a week caring for a loved one.
  • Sacrifice their education, physical and emotional well-being.
  • Become isolated from friends and lack socialization.
  • Miss experiencing their own childhood.

Connie Siskowski, RN, PHD – AACY’s Founder and President’s dream is for all family caregivers to be honored and respected, but especially the youth for their contribution to family and to society; no child in the US should have to drop out of school because he or she has to care for a family member.

Allegiance Home Health is proud to be a community partner with the American Association of Caregiving Youth.

Allegiance’s CEO and President, Rosie Inguanzo-Martin, serves on the AACY Board as Vice Chair. Rosie has a big heart and it shows through her actions. One of the many ways Allegiance supports caregiving youth is by giving them a break through providing respite care. This allows the children to have a little time for themselves, with friends, or study. Rosie understands the importance of a good education and after school activities. That is why Allegiance offers help to relieve the kids by helping their family members.  As a result, the students can succeed – and just be kids!

In helping these children, together the AACY and Allegiance Home Health are a part of their success. 100% of the AACY students who are seniors graduated from high school this year. Congratulations Class of 2020!
